Couple things that tripped me up that might save you time/money:

The federal credit (Form 8911) is now 30% up to $1,000 but only if your home is in a low‑income or non‑urban census tract. Worth a quick address lookup before you count on it.
Most utility rebates need pre‑approval and a “smart,” ENERGY STAR/UL‑listed Level 2 with Wi‑Fi. Some even require enrolling in managed charging or a TOU rate (they’ll throttle during peaks, but you can get a bigger rebate or bill credits).
Credit is on your net cost after rebates, and they’ll ask for permit + final inspection, invoice labor details, and a photo of the charger + serial number. Deadlines are tight (often 60-90 days) and funds run out.
If you need a panel/service upgrade, ask if your utility or state covers part of that-some do, which is huge.
Rough stack example: $700 charger + $900 install = $1,600. Utility rebate $500 → $1,100 net. If your address qualifies, 30% federal = ~$330 tax credit → about $770 out of pocket.
