I’ve been in the EV community for a while now, and there’s something I’ve been wondering about. We've heard about the benefits of electric vehicles-lower running costs, environmental benefits, etc. But I think we need to have a more in-depth discussion about the repair ecosystem around EVs.
Are electric vehicles really that maintenance-free, or is the complexity of repairs just shifting from one place to another? I’ve come across a few instances where EV owners mention how difficult it is to find qualified repair shops outside the dealership network. While traditional ICE vehicles have a vast network of independent repair shops, are we losing that advantage with EVs?
Also, what are the typical repair issues folks are facing? Are there any parts or systems in EVs that tend to fail more often than others, or that result in prolonged downtimes due to parts availability?
Would love to hear thoughts and experiences from others in the community. Are there any trends you’ve noticed in terms of repair and maintenance that might be slipping under the radar? Is there potential for an expanded network of independent EV repair shops, or are we locked into a model where dealership service is the only viable option? Looking forward to everyone's insights!
