When I first started driving an electric vehicle, I was constantly worried about finding charging stations, especially outside city limits. Over time, I've noticed a significant increase in both the number and quality of charging options. In my experience, urban areas have really stepped up, but there's still room for improvement, especially on highways and in more remote locations.
I've been pretty impressed with the Tesla Supercharger network—they're fast and usually quite reliable. However, I frequently use ChargePoint and Electrify America stations as well, depending on where I am. I've found them to be solid, especially with faster charging times becoming more common.
For planning road trips, I almost exclusively rely on apps like PlugShare. It's super helpful to see real-time updates and user feedback. A Better Routeplanner has also saved me a few times by suggesting optimal stops and estimating charging times pretty accurately.
Looking ahead, it would be fantastic to see more standardized charging ports across different EV brands, more high-capacity chargers, and further expansion into less populated areas. It’d also be great if we could get more integrated payment systems, so you don't need a different app or card for every network. Consistency and reliability will really help make EVs more convenient for everyone.
